    Exercises Project Handler Signature Authority as Project Handler of certification projects. Responsible for opening, maintenance, completion, and closing of assigned new work engineering projects relating to the building materials for standards and codes across the world as required by our customers and within the designated competency levels (see Competency/Experience below).


    Works within UL to support client interaction activities. This will include colleagues within BLST division, sales staff and UL staff in other divisions as required to support our customers from a technical position relating to building materials for areas in which technical competence is designated.



    In conjunction with the Business Development Manager and Engineering Manager, responsible for the development of technical and commercial initiatives relating to the building materials industry in Europe for products which are within competence; this includes aspects such as customer interaction, technical development, associated stakeholder interaction and support.



    Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services. Communicates with clients to provide technical assistance in reference to complex product evaluation and/or inspection and follow-up services. Follows up on contacts from clients. Resolves technical issues and explains The Company procedures and requirements.


    Determines project scope and specifications with substantial latitude for action or decision. Recommends changes in procedures, design or equipment where necessary.


    Plans, conducts and supervises projects of major magnitude and scope. Determines areas in which the product is not in compliance with The Company requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications, and notifies client.


    Coordinates complex laboratory activities by developing data sheets. Coordinates administrative aspects of project management. May serve as Project Handler and may sign as Reviewer as assigned and within the designated areas of technical competence.


    Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.


    Develops internal requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment.


    Performs special projects as directed.



    • Work experience related to the building materials industry and fire resistance
    • Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline
    • Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in areas of expertise
    • Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts in use in areas of expertise, including application to complex, new, or unusual products
    • Working knowledge of industry issues, needs, and problems
    • Proficiency in spoken and written German and English

    Ideal candidate would be equipped the experience in the testing and certification of the following product types to North American and European Standards:

    Fire Doors, Smoke Doors, Steel Protection, Firestopping, Glass and Glazing, Fire and Smoke Ducts, Fire and Smoke Dampers, Partitions, Building Hardware
